How Much Does Patreon Take From Creators in 2026?
Patreon raised its standard platform fee to 10% in August 2025. That's before Stripe, before Apple — here's what you actually keep.
Two Shares Research · Updated April 2026
The 10% fee
Patreon charges a platform fee on every transaction. For new creators joining after August 4, 2025, that fee is 10% of every patron payment, every month. Patreon calls it a “standard platform fee.”
For creators on the platform before that date, fees vary by plan (Pro at 8%, Premium at 12%). The trend is clear: it's going up, not down.
Stripe processing on top
After Patreon takes its cut, Stripe processes the payment. Standard Stripe fees: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.
On an $8 patron payment, that's $0.23 (2.9%) + $0.30 = $0.53 to Stripe, every month, for that one patron.
500 patrons at $8/mo = $4,000 gross
Stripe fixed fees alone: 500 × $0.30 = $150/mo
The iOS problem
When patrons pay through the Patreon iPhone app, Apple takes 30% first. Patreon absorbs some of this through their own margins — but the effective payout to creators on iOS transactions can drop significantly.
Patreon has been fighting Apple's in-app purchase requirement for years. Until that changes, mobile patrons are worth less than web patrons — and you have no visibility into which is which.
What you actually keep
The fee that compounds
These fees hit every month, forever. Most creators don't calculate the annual total until year two or three — at which point the number is jarring.
At $3,000/mo: $4,752/yr to Patreon + Stripe.
That's before taxes. That's just the platform taking its share of what your audience sent you.
What Two Shares does differently
Two Shares is structurally different. Your supporters pay a 5% access fee on top of what they send — it's not deducted from your payout. You receive 100% of what they intended.
